Support for students with additional needs
Give one student extra time or no time limit, reading aloud, larger text, a calm screen or no exam alerts, without the class knowing.
For teachers
- 1
Open a student's support
Press π beside the student's name: in the waiting room, on the progress cards or in the results table. You can do it before you start or at any time during the session.
- 2
Choose their time
"+25%", "+50%", "Double" or "No time limit". It applies to the whole-test time limit and to question countdowns, for this student only.
- 3
Turn on what helps
- "Read every question aloud": the question and its answers are read out by themselves.
- "Larger text": everything on their screen is bigger.
- "Calm screen": fewer things on screen, no movement, a gentle timer without numbers.
- "No exam alerts" (exam mode): for students using assistive tools, leaving the test is not flagged or auto-submitted.
- 4
Save
Their screen changes straight away. Classmates are not told, and names never show on the projector. A filled π shows on your screen only.
- 5
Breaks
A student can press β then "β I need a break". In a self-paced test their clock stops until they press "I'm ready to go on". You see "β on a break" on your screen.
- 6
In the report
The report marks students who had support, their sheet lists it with the time on breaks, and the CSV export has a Support column.
Students can help themselves too
See also the Accessibility and SEN support page (askroomlive.com/accessibility). Every student has an "Aa" button for text size, high contrast, easy-read letters, more space, reading aloud, a slower voice, a calm screen, hiding the countdown, less movement, and tapping instead of dragging. Pictures can carry a description for screen readers: type it under the picture in the editor.
