Content Guidelines
Last updated 9 September 2026 · Askroom Live is provided by RealHatApps.
In plain words
Askroom Live is a classroom. Write questions you would be comfortable showing to any student, any parent and any colleague. If you are unsure, leave it out. Anyone can report something that crosses the line.
Why these rules exist
Questions can include pictures, and they are shown to children on their own screens. A single inappropriate image or a question that mocks someone's faith can cause real harm and can get a teacher, a school and this Service into serious trouble. These guidelines are the same in spirit as those used by every major classroom platform, and they apply to text, images, options, explanations and student display names.
Not allowed
- Adult content. Nudity, sexual acts, sexualised images of anyone, sexual language or innuendo. Biology and health education are fine when handled the way a textbook would.
- Attacks on identity. Anything that mocks, demeans or stereotypes a religion, belief, caste, community, ethnicity, nationality, language group, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. Teaching about religions and communities respectfully is welcome. Ranking them, ridiculing them or asking students to judge them is not.
- Bullying. Questions that target a particular student, expose a student's private situation, or invite the class to laugh at someone.
- Violence and self-harm. Graphic injury, gore, cruelty, or content that glorifies weapons, drugs, self-harm or suicide. Age-appropriate history and science lessons are fine.
- Private information about children. Do not ask students for phone numbers, addresses, family details, health information or photographs of themselves.
- Other people's work. Do not paste in paid textbook content, exam papers or images you do not have the right to use. Short quotations for teaching are generally fine.
- Politics and religion as provocation. Questions designed to provoke, take sides on divisive political or religious disputes, or push a personal opinion onto students.
- Anything illegal where you or your students are.
Expected
- Content is for teaching, learning, training or assessment.
- Images are relevant to the question and suitable for the age group.
- Student display names are real first names or nicknames chosen with the teacher's approval. Remove any name that is offensive or impersonates someone.
- Sensitive subjects (history of conflict, disease, discrimination) are handled factually and with care, as a good textbook would.
What happens when something is reported
- We look at the report, usually within a few days.
- If content breaks these guidelines we hide or remove it and tell the account owner why.
- Repeated or serious breaches lead to the account being suspended or closed. Anything that suggests a child is at risk is treated as urgent and may be passed to the relevant authorities.
How to report
Teachers can use Report an issue at the bottom of their dashboard. Students can use the Report a problem link on the session screen. You can also visit the report page directly. Reports are read by a person, not a bot, and you will not be identified to the teacher you reported unless the law requires it.
These guidelines form part of the Terms of Service.
