How to run a live classroom quiz in five minutes

What you need

• A free teacher account on Askroom Live.
• Any device per student, or one between two: phone, tablet, Chromebook or laptop.
• A projector or shared screen is helpful but not required.

Steps

1. Create an assessment and choose the age group: junior, middle or senior. This sets the look students see.
2. Add questions. Start with three to five. Multiple choice and true or false are the quickest to write.
3. Add a short explanation to each question if you want students to learn why an answer is right.
4. Press Go live and choose teacher-paced, so the whole class sees the same question.
5. Show the join code, the QR code or the link. Students enter the code and their name.
6. Press Start. Move to the next question when you are ready, and reveal the answer when you choose.
7. End the session. Students see their score, and you get a report you can print or export as CSV.

Tips that make it go well

• Open the projector view in a second window. It shows the question large, without student names.
• Turn on a per-question countdown only when speed matters. Without it, slower readers are not punished.
• Use the Preview button before class to answer the quiz yourself and check the marking.

When you have no time to prepare

Use Quick Question. It asks one question with no setup, which is enough to check whether the room has understood before you move on.
